Opening Day events and injuries.
Opening Day is just around the corner, literally, slated for next Sunday, April 5th. The Braves will open up the season against the World Champs in Philadelphia on Sunday at 8 pm on ESPN. Finally, the moment we’ve all been longing for during the dreaded off season is within sight.
The Braves will be gone for a week on the road and on April 10th, they’ll come home for the first homestand of the season. The Braves’ Opening Night will feature lots of excitement when they face off against the Washington Nationals. In the pre-game ceremony, the Braves will honor newly-retired Pete Van Wieren and he’ll also have the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
Fans and the Braves organization will have a chance to show their appreciation to the legend in the broadcast booth during pre-game ceremonies honoring Van Wieren. An on field presentation will pay tribute to the Braves Hall of Famer and take a retrospective look at his distinguished career. Before the first home game of the season gets under way, Van Wieren will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Other festivities will include full squad introductions of each team and Jason Aldean singing the National Anthem. Friday Night Fireworks will ensue once the game has concluded and the first 45,000 fans will receive a Braves 2009 magnetic schedule.
Will you be there in attendance? I will and I’ve already bought my tickets!
Soriano is now experiencing soreness in his right side, but a complete diagnosis is not known as of now. Soriano has suffered an upper respiratory infection all spring and has been limited with his outings. The Braves are hoping the ailment is minor like Chipper’s mild oblique strain.
