Braves Out on Ohman
DOB is reporting that the Braves are no longer pursuing free agent lefty reliever Will Ohman. Here is the brief comment on the matter from DOB:
THIS JUST IN: Braves are no longer pursuing Will Ohman, according to what I was told tonight by someone who is very much in the know. Don’t know when decision was made or why, but they’re not pursuing the Lebowski lefty.
As I mentioned in my last post, I found it somewhat odd that he wasn’t mentioned in the article with the potential interests the Braves had listed. I’m guessing now I know why. Much of the winter an offer has been extended to Ohman for an undisclosed amount. My thinking is that he expected more from the Braves, the Braves are on the verge of acquiring an outfield bat, or have some other move in the works that is unknown to us at this point. I guess all we can do is wait and see what happens. At least we know it’s not because we’re signing Andruw Jones.
Also, Nick Cafardo has mentioned these tidbits in his latest article that pertain to the Braves:
3. Bobby Abreu, OF, free agent: The feeling is that he may have to sign for about $3 million on a one-year or two-year deal. At that price, the Angels, Mets, Braves, and Dodgers would have big-time interest. Another team hot after him is Seattle.
4. Tom Glavine, LHP, free agent: One thing the 305-game winner decided last week: He’ll pitch in ’09. He wants to pitch for the Braves; expect a one-year, incentive-laden deal to be struck. After last Tuesday’s throwing session, with manager Bobby Cox and pitching coach Roger McDowell looking on, there was optimism on all sides that Glavine could be an effective No. 5 starter.
